Programs

TORRANCE GIRLS SOFTBALL LEAGUE (TGSL) provides various programs as options depending on the level of competition desired.

Recreational

As the Premier Recreational League in the South Bay, our primary focus is to develop girls to be moral citizens while also learning how to play the game of softball at the recreational level. This is the most popular program at TGSL and we offer development at various levels (aka Divisions), including 6U (Tee-Ball), 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.

  • 6U (T-Ball) Division: Ages 4 through 6 years
  • 8U Division: Ages 8 years old and under
  • 10U Division: Ages 10 years old and under
  • 12U Division: Ages 12 years old and under
  • 14U Division: Ages 14 years old and under

NOTE: All ages are as of December 31, of the year prior to the start of the Spring Season

As part of our Recreational program, TGSL offers two different seasons for play: Spring Season and Fall Season. The Spring Season can be considered a balanced combination of development and competitive play, with offical scoring, standings and playoffs included depending on the Division. The Fall season is purely developmental only as no official scoring, standings or playoffs are managed or held.

The Spring Season Registration Enrollment window is typically open from the beginning of October through the end of December of every year, with the actual Spring Season window occuring from the beginning of February through the beginning of May of every year.

The Fall Season Registration Enrollment window is typically open from the beginning of May through the end of July of every year, with the actual Fall Season window occurring from the beginning of September through the middle of November of every year.

All-Stars

TGSL supports All-Star programs in order to provide a higher level of competition for advanced athletes during the Summer Season. TGSL typically recognizes and supports up to three All-Star teams in each of the 8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U Divisions, as determined by the TGSL Board of Directors. In order to quality for All-Stars, an athlete must participate in the Spring Season and then be rated as a high-performing athlete based on a documented rating scheme, as defined in our TGSL Operating Rules, that ensures a fair and unbiased selection process.

The Summer Season typically starts in May and ends in July.

Select

Select is a program that provides the option for more advanced players to play softball at a more challenging level DURING the recreational season (either Spring or Fall Seasons). Each year, USA SOFTBALL recreational leagues lose players and volunteers (coaches, coordinators, Board members, etc.) to travel ball due to a desire to play softball at a more competitive level. USA SOFTBALL Select is intended to allow advanced players to play against all star caliber teams from local leagues within the Los Angeles/South Bay District (and potentially other Western Region Districts as well) to get a higher level of competition while keeping costs low, and without compromising the integrity of the primary recreational league.

Select is not All-Stars and is entirely a separate program.

Select is available for the 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. Generally, only one Select team per division is permitted. Multiple teams per division are only permissible with USA Softball and TGSL Board approval.

Travel

While TGSL loses advanced athletes and volunteers to travel ball every year, TGSL also wishes to embrace this natural stepping stone for those who seek the highest levels of competitive softball. TGSL has partnered and is affiliated with the Ohana Tigers Softball Club to help with this transition and to help families and athletes stay local in the South Bay in order to continue to enjoy the game they love while keeping travel ball expenditures at a minimum.
